Valley of the Gods slot is a 5 reel, 3,125 payline slot from developers Yggdrasil Gaming. The game is set in the deserts of ancient Egypt and contains the kinds of images and symbols you would anticipate in such a theme. The game features four high-value symbols which are comprised of different depictions of gods, while the four low-value ones are made up of carvings with jewels in them. This game is unique in that there are no wild or scatter symbols, but there is a special Scarab ‘Blocker' icon that plays into the game's sole bonus feature.
Traverse to an exotic land in Valley of the Gods, an Egyptian themed slot adventure! Now, there are a ton of slots that have been set in Egypt over the years, including one of the most popular titles ever conceived. However, this one manages to separate itself from the rest with its mix of brilliant visuals and entertaining features. Before we go over the game’s bonus though, let’s have a look at the visual design of the slot.
Visuals and Layout
When you start this game, you will be immediately greeted by a CGI intro. It opens with a shot of breath-taking desert. Then the sand, which is rendered in wonderful detail, starts to shift as scarabs emerge from underneath. The gold covered insects then crawl towards a temple in the distance with a large statue of the god Anubis. They then climb atop the huge idol, placing in certain slots and lighting up in a magical blue colour. The screen then pans out, revealing the game's logo against the Egyptian backdrop. It's a stunning introduction to the game and an instant indication of its quality.
The reels themselves have a similar level of graphics, with the temple shown in the intro serving as the setting. There statues on either side that slowly fills up as you make your way through the game’s bonus feature. As you slowly start to remove the Scarab Blockers, the music will build until it reaches a thunderous crescendo. The feeling of blowing away those icons is incredibly satisfying and, when the free spins start spinning, it amounts to a well-executed feature.
Scarab Free Spins
While there is only one bonus in the game, it is a fairly hefty one and contains many different aspects to it. The first thing to mention is that there is a form of the popular Collapsing Reels mechanic here. This means that every time you land a winning combination, the symbols involved will disappear and be replaced by new ones. These can then form new winning combinations. The way this plays into the bonus is that, as you rack up wins, the Scarab Blockers will start to be removed from the reels. After all of them are gone, the full reel set will be revealed, and the free spins mode will trigger.
The statues on either side of the reels will then become functional, with the one on the left initially granting a 2x multiplier while the right-hand one will hold the number of extra lives, or free spins, you have. Additionally, there are two new scarabs in this mode, coloured red and blue. If you collect five red ones from winning combinations, you will receive an extra life. The blue scarabs will increase the multiplier. The reels will keep spinning for as long as you keep winning. If you take a spin that doesn't end in a winning combo, you will lose one life. This feature can provide a big boost to your winnings if you're lucky as you can get some pretty good rolls that, when combined with the multiplier, can add up to a big sum.

Valley of the Gods is strange in that you’ll spend most of your gameplay trying to unlock the bonus mode. The smaller wins are few and far between, but the minute the free spins trigger, it’s a different story. The addition of collapsing reels, when used in conjunction with the multiplier and free spins, can be very generous indeed and may provide the helping hand your payout needs.
