Reel King Mega slots is a five reel, 20 payline slot developed by Red Tiger Gaming. It is a classic themed slot and features a fairly minimalistic user interface. The most valuable of the base game symbols is shown as a pot of gold, and you also have the standard playing cards K, Q, J and 10. Additionally, there are also two fruit machine symbols; cherries and a blueberry. There is a wild in the game which is shown as a jester's hat. There are two bonus features in the game; the King's Crown and the Reel King.
For many online gaming players, slots exist entirely within the confines of a computer screen. However, the older members will remember the age of fruit machines. Physical contraptions you could play your favourite slots on. While these have mostly been relegated to the dark, dingy arcades of yesteryear, some have managed to make the jump into the online landscape. Reel King Mega is one of those titles and has been updated by famed slot developers, Red Tiger Gaming.
Visuals and Layout
In terms of visuals, Reel King Mega doesn't exactly blow the competition away. It has classic roots, and it seems this has carried over to the graphics as they seem a little dated. The backdrop is a completely static shot of a pile of gold coins, with the various buttons of the interface dotted about. The reels themselves don't have that much more action, containing the symbols and little else. There are no animations for the icons either, though they look nice enough. The other intriguing aspect of the symbols is that they can occupy 2x2 positions on the board, which can lead to some pretty big wins. While none of this impacts the gameplay, it's a little disappointing when you consider the things some developers are doing with design.
Luckily for Reel King Mega, the value is significantly better than the visuals. The most valuable symbol in the game is the pot of gold, which will grant a 500x your stake multiplier for a five of a kind win. Then comes the K, which will pay out the equivalent of 200x your stake for the same criteria. After we have the Q followed by the J, that will grant a 100x or 60x value respectively. The 10 will also pay out at 60x, while the fruit machine symbols are both worth 40x.
This bonus can trigger randomly at any point during your gameplay. The King will appear above the reels before dropping his crown. This will then bounce around multiple reel positions, and any symbols it hits will be turned wild. After this, a new calculation will be made, and your payout will be updated.
Occasionally, you may notice the reels change colour to gold, and this feature will trigger once each has changed colour. This will take you to a new reel set which is on the King himself and can feature between three to five reels. In this round, all the symbols will be replaced by blue, yellow and red sevens. You'll have to land three of these to form a win, and different combinations will award different multipliers. You will receive a 2x, 5x, 10x or 25x your stake for a mixed, blue, yellow or red winning combo.
Play it at Kerching
If you’re not too fussed about how it looks, Reel King Mega can certainly be an entertaining game. It is a classic themed slot, so minimalism in gameplay and design is to be expected. However, despite the lacklustre graphics, there are quite a few things the game does immensely well. The random acting King’s Crown bonus can provide a nice little boost if you’re lucky and the Reel King feature is a surprisingly modern bonus. The phrase ‘don’t judge a book by its cover' definitely applies here.
