Would you spend £150 on a cat's ashes?

- Wednesday, July 21 2010

Famous Corrie cat's ashes go up for auction later this month

The ashes of one of the most famous cats in Britain - even more well-known than the stars of our very own Kitty Glitter - will go under the hammer later this month.

Players may remember Frisky climbing across the top of Jack Duckworth's pigeon loft during the opening credits of Coronation Street. He survived as a part of the show from 1990 to 2004 - more than 10,000 episodes - even beyond his death in 2000.

Frisky's former owner John Rimmington claimed that the cat loved being the centre of attention, although he didn't live the gritty, urban existence his role on the show suggested. Rimmington said:

"He was a fabulous, fun and outgoing cat - but many thought he was streetwise. He certainly wasn't - in real life he wasn't skulking round back yards - he had a converted castle to lounge around."

Frisky in the Kitty Glitterati?

It seems Frisky would've fitted right in with the life led by the litter-ati in the online slots title Kitty Glitter.

The game features 30-paylines and is based on the land-based title of the same name. Fans of the original will feel at home with this online iteration and pick up the basics straight away. Who knows, a few spins of the reels and they could have the £150 estimated to be enough to claim Frisky's ashes when they go under the hammer.

Online slots fans are not alone if they find the auction a little bit strange. Even auctioneer Chris Albury described the sale of Frisky's remains "unusual".

Indeed, the urn goes up alongside the lock of Jane Austen's hair and Napoleon's tooth as one of the quirkiest items ever seen at the auction house.
