Canadian group hopes to offer online casino gamers free music while they play
Gamers could soon be singing along to their favourite music while they play in online casinos, if a move by a Canadian online casino group is successful.
The online casino group plans to offer free music downloads to online casino gamers, giving them the chance to enjoy their favourite music while they game on online casino sites.
The proposal would allow gamers at online casinos to download a wide selection of music from the sites and listen to it while they game. At present, no further details on the range and genres of music on offer for download at the online casinos have been released.
A spokesman for the online casino group said that the plan would offer another form of excitement to online casino gamers, allowing them to enhance their gaming experience. He said:
"We think the idea of having music downloads offers our players another form of excitement. Music is a form of entertainment, as is gaming. We think they kind of go hand in hand. It's something that will give our players a little more excitement to their online experience."
While online casinos in British Columbia offer only virtual lottery games, residents are free to use online casinos around the world for online games like online slots and online blackjack. A study in 2005 found 60 per cent of the Canadian population play in online casinos.
A further study in 2007 showed that gaming in online casinos had risen in popularity among people aged 19 to 24, with the number of young gamers rising to 5.5 per cent in 2005 from 1.4 per cent in 2001.
While some opposition groups are claiming that the move will increase the popularity of online casinos with this age group, a statement from the company said the downloadable music would only be available to current subscribers.
