London Hippodrome to be converted into a gaming centre
One of London's most historic landmarks - The Hippodrome - is set to be converted into a state-of-the-art London casino under plans announced this week.
One of the UK's most iconic live entertainment venues, the site is set to become a world class casino after a gaming firm was successful in its application for a casino licence. This would enable them to host a variety of casino games at the London casino.
The new plans would see the Grade Two listed building receive an £8 million renovation in preparation for the opening of the new London casino. The Hippodrome would be refurbished to accommodate the casino, including slots and roulette games, a card room with blackjack and poker and a cabaret performance area.
While details of the new London casino have yet to be released, it is believed the new owners will pay homage to The Hippodrome's history and plan to feature live entertainment shows as well as offering traditional casino entertainment like slots and roulette.
Audrey Lewis, Westminster City Council's cabinet member for Customers and Neighbourhoods, commented about the news of the London casino: "We would be happy to see a casino established at the Hippodrome as we feel that a casino will provide visitors to the venue with a more integrated night out. We feel that the venue will serve people better and be safer as a casino."
