Popularity of online gaming looks set to rise amid growing economic uncertainty
A senior figure in the online gaming industry has said that online casinos are likely to benefit from the financial downturn threatening the world's economy.
Despite predictions in 2007 that the online gaming industry would continue to grow rapidly over the next five years, there are concerns within the online casino industry that the increased likelihood of recession in countries like America and Great Britain would affect online gaming casinos. Warwick Bartlett, a senior official at Global Betting and Gaming Consultants has said that this would not be the case.
When asked how the economic turmoil in the United States would affect the prosperity of online casinos, Bartlett replied that he thought the previous year's projections for steady growth were still on track and far from the norm, online casinos look set to benefit from the recession threatening America.
Bartlett said that the rising cost of fuel could see regular casino players turn to online gaming in order to continue their hobby of playing slot machines and blackjack. He pointed out that registrations for online casinos in the European Union, specifically in countries such as Germany and the United Kingdom, were growing.
With uncertainty over the global economy still remaining, it seems that if online casinos can continue to grow and attract new players over the coming months, there might be some winners after all.
