My Cleopatra would be different, says Angelina Jolie
Angelina Jolie would play the role of Cleopatra differently to actresses who have previously taken on the iconic role, the star has claimed.
Jolie has long been linked to the big-screen reimagining of the Egyptian queen's life, with a deal between her and the studio behind the project rumoured to be near. However, the Mr and Mrs Smith star is keen to distance herself from other dramatic interpretations of Cleopatra, namely Elizabeth Taylor's famous turn in the 1963 film named after the historical figure.
Jolie has been researching Cleopatra independently, and believes she can see a different direction in which to take the character. She said:
"I read her story and found a different side to her - that she was a mother, leader and an intellect who spoke five languages! I will play it differently to Elizabeth Taylor, but I could never be as lovely as she was."
