Report claims tipping is in decline at land-based casinos
There are a number of benefits to playing at an online casino instead of a land-based venue. For players who can't splash too much cash, the fact that they do not have to spend money on tipping may be one of them.
While the lack of tipping at online establishments goes unnoticed due to the relative lack of staff involved, a recent drop in generous handouts at offline venues is proving to be a problem, according to one report.
An investigation published by the Reno Gazette-Journal has found that the number of customers leaving a little extra for casino staff has dropped across the state. This is proving to be a problem for some staff, as gratuity can count for between 30 and 80 per cent of their total wage.
Larry Woolf, CEO of the Navagante Group of Las Vegas, which operates venues throughout the region, said that employees are generally accepting the lack of extra income due to times being tough because of the recession. He said:
"I have not heard a lot of grousing about it. I just think people know that the economy is down and there are less tips."
