Malaysian man snatched $200 in chips

A Malaysian man has picked up a $2,000 (£970) fine in Singapore after confessing to stealing $200-worth of casino chips from one of the country's resorts.

It's a story that will make Kerching online casino players breathe a sigh of relief that they choose to gamble on the internet: 57-year-old Ahmad Sharifuddin A. Shukor snatched the chips from a lady playing at the baccarat table. He told the woman that his friend had left the chips at the table, pointing to her pile, and then seized the opportunity to take them when she wasn't looking.

CCTV footage caught out Ahmad, who later cashed in the chips and left the Resorts Word Sentosa casino, before heading to another venue where he lost the money.

Ahmad has now been slapped with the $2,000 fine, but could have been jailed for as long as three years for the theft.
