Ooh Aah Dracula: not the only good vampire

- Wednesday, December 17 2008

The mobile slots game Ooh Aah Dracula features a comic and cheerful vampire. Complete with cape and sunglasses, he helpfully appears in the mobile casino game to give slots players the chance to increase their money. Ooh Aah Dracula isn’t the first creature of the night to break away from the frankly miserable stereotypical image of the vampire. There have been a number of friendly vampires throughout history who’d rather suck ice lollies than blood.

Angel

The spinoff from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel followed the exploits of the titular vampire with a soul. A fantasy world where demons and monsters roamed the streets, Angel was a self-conscious vampire with a heart of gold, saving humans from beasts and men alike. He also had a penchant for Barry Manilow.

Count Duckula

A revered cartoon from the 1980s, Count Duckula followed the adventures of a vampire duck living in Transylvania. Much like the vampire from the mobile casino game, Ooh Aah Dracula, Count Duckula was a cape-wearing vampire with a habit of causing mischief. While other vampires preferred blood, Count Duckula was more interested in a pint of carrot juice, much to the disdain of his relatives and servants.

Blade

The violent film trilogy, featuring Wesley Snipes, followed the adventures of Blade, a half-human, half-vampire. The trilogy was based on the comic strip by Marvel, and saw Blade face off against legions of the undead. While not as generous or cheerful as the mobile casino game vampire from Ooh Aah Dracula, Blade was still a good vampire, protecting humankind from the fiends of the night.

Louis de Pointe du Lac

Based on the acclaimed novel by Anne Rice, the 1994 film Interview with the Vampire starred Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. While Crusie’s villainous Lestat was cast in the vein of the typical vampire, Brad Pitt’s Lois was a vampire more in line with the vampire from mobile casino game Ooh Aah Dracula. A vampire with a conscience, Lois tried to refrain from the typical habits of the undead, granting an interview with a newspaper reporter in an attempt to warn the world about the dangers of his kind.

Edward Cullen

Twilight, the teenage film craze of late 2008, follows the life of Edward, a good vampire who falls in love with a human. While Edward is a lot less comic than the vampire from the Ooh Aah Dracula mobile casino game, he retains a noble core. He attends school, falls in love and saves his girlfriend from becoming a vampire. Aww.
