Casino showgirls and Elvis help a record seven couples tie the knot
Inspired by the glamour of Las Vegas casinos, show girls and, of course, Elvis, the owners of a traditional English pub in Nottinghamshire came up with a plan to break the record for the most weddings on a single day, according to the Nottingham Evening Post.
Seven couples in total were married at the Full Moon pub, in Morton, near Newark in Nottinghamshire, on a day that saw the pub transformed into a vision of the famous Strip of Las Vegas. The ceremonies were conducted over the course of ten hours by a registrar and the couples were all serenaded by an Elvis impersonator, who sang for them individually and then went on to do a half-hour set during the reception.
The Las Vegas theme was topped off with a six table casino, magician, show girls and a disco at the reception, which were enjoyed by the guests of all seven couples who married on the day. The pub, which is the only one in Nottinghamshire licensed to conduct civil ceremonies, had to make extra room, with a marquee erected especially for the day, and will now hold the record for the most weddings to take place in one ten hour period on the same premises, not including, of course, a registry office.
"Everyone has got into the spirit of it and enjoyed it for what it is - a fun way of getting married that's got a little bit of a twist," said landlady Rebecca White. The date of the special Las Vegas wedding day also had a special significance, as it was on 10/10/10. "It just felt right," said one bride.
Las Vegas, with its kitsch wedding chapels and massive casinos, is a favourite for couples wanting to marry cheaply and quickly. The long flight over there from the UK may put some people off so maybe Las Vegas casino themed multiple weddings is something that will take off. Another way of enjoying the fun of the casino, of course, is to play online casino games here, at Kerching Casino.
