What's your favourite gambling movie?
Online casino aficionados received a shock this month when it was revealed that everyone's favourite gambler might not return to the big screen for some time. Bond 23, the working title of the new James Bond film, has been suspended indefinitely owing to financial troubles at legendary film studio MGM. It was due to be released in 2011.
To soften the blow, the folks at Kerching online casino thought it was high time we got reacquainted with some classics of the silver screen. Last year's blog about casino games in film introduced many players to movies that tied in with their favourite pastime, so now we've decided to go one step further. Without further ado, here's our pick for the three greatest casino films.
- Casino (1995) - Quite simply one of the greatest films ever made, Casino tells the tale of two mobsters. Ace Rothstein (Robert de Niro) is a Las Vegas casino boss trying to draw a line under his rather shady past. But when old friend Nicky Santoro (Joe Pesci) starts throwing some heavy-handed mafia tactics into the mix, a battle of wills ensues in which the casino is caught in the middle.
- GoldenEye (1995) - GoldenEye is the first of the new James Bond films and thankfully it takes 007 back to his roots - namely, a casino. Bond is on the trail of Xenia Onatopp, a member of the Russian mafia, and his search takes him inside a Monte Carlo casino. Cue some classic Bond banter, paving the way for a love-hate relationship to end them all.
- Ocean's Eleven (2001) - Ocean's Eleven tells the tale of an epic heist bankrolled by a bitter casino owner and masterminded by career criminal Danny Ocean. The plan is to rob a vault housing the takings of three Las Vegas casinos - the Bellagio, the MGM Grand and the Mirage. But at the heart of Ocean's Eleven is a very personal feud between Danny Ocean and the ruthless casino mogul Terry Benedict.
