We look at the biggest transfer fees in football

The football transfer window is once again open and all the big clubs are looking to splash the cash. In our latest Kerching Casino blog we run down some of the biggest moves in football history. You'd be surprised; some are as big as the funds in the bank account of the Monty's Millions mascot!

  • Cristiano Ronaldo - Real Madrid splashed out £80m to bring the often controversial, always brilliant Manchester United winger to the Bernabeu two years ago. It has turned out to be money well spent, as the Portuguese has scored an incredible 86 goals in 89 appearances.
  • Zinedine Zidane - Arguably the greatest footballer of all time made the move from Juventus to join Real Madrid's Galacticos in 2001. The Spanish club paid a then-record of £46m. The size of the fee might have raised eyebrows, but the quality of the player cannot be denied.
  • Hernan Crespo - Some £35m was spent by Lazio in order to bring Argentine ace Hernan Crespo to the club from fellow Serie A team Parma. Crespo did well, scoring 48 in 73 appearances, but ultimately found his way to Chelsea where he enjoyed only limited opportunities. He is currently back at Parma.
  • Alan Shearer - The world transfer record was broken in 1996 when Newcastle United signed Blackburn and England striker Alan Shearer for £15 million. Snubbing a move to Manchester United for the second time in his career, the boyhood Magpies fan went on to be Newcastle's highest ever scorer.
  • Giuseppe Savoldi - The first £1 million signing in world football was Giuseppe Savoldi, who cost Napoli £1.2m from Bologna in 1975. Scoring 55 times in 118 appearances, his strike record justified the money and raised the bar when it came to worldwide transfer fees.
