Exciting times for iPhone casino games

Paid slots and sports betting are now available on the iPhone

The iPhone has revolutionised many aspects of modern life. In today's society, people think nothing of playing online games, updating their Facebook status and reading breaking news stories even when they're in the pub. However, one area that has remained largely unaffected by the iPhone revolution is online casino games.

If you didn't know already, gambling has traditionally been frowned upon by the App Store. Sure, online casino fans can pay to download Cleopatra slots, but they can only play for points not pounds. Thankfully, there are plenty of encouraging signs when we look ahead to the future of the iPhone casino.

For starters, it may surprise you to learn that a cash version of Pots of Gold is now available for the iPhone and iPod touch. The Rainbow Riches iPhone game is a faithful recreation of the online and mobile slots sensation in which players can win up to £5,000 in a single spin. To get started, simply point an iPhone browser at i.kerching.mobi or text 'iPhone' to 88821.

In a similar vein comes Monopoly Multiplier for the iPhone and iPod touch. Due to launch any day now, the Monopoly Multiplier iPhone game will let casino lovers play for big cash dividends as they rub shoulders with Rich Uncle Pennybags.

Of course, neither the Rainbow Riches or Monopoly Multiplier iPhone games are apps in the strictest sense - players access the slots through their browsers rather than through the App Store. But even that could be about to change. An exciting new development suggests that the winds may finally be blowing in a different direction at Apple HQ.

Earlier this month, a UK betting firm became the first company to get a paid gambling app accepted by the App Store. The app, which is only available in the UK and Ireland, allows people to bet for money on football matches, horse races and more.

It's still very early days but if Apple is willing to accept a sports betting app, it doesn't take a huge leap to imagine that it could finally sanction iPhone casino apps too. This makes sense when you consider quite how many mobile casino game fans are out there - just look at the runaway success of mobile slots like Cleopatra, Cluedo and Elvis Top 20. Surely then, we won't have to wait much longer for paid iPhone casino apps to become a reality.
