Record set for first casino wedding
A casino in Southend became the centre of a record-breaking event recently, as a couple wed in the venue. It was the first time a casino has ever been used as a wedding venue in the UK and, according to the casino's owner, possibly the world. He argues that, while Las Vegas is famous for its weddings and casinos, the licensed casino areas, with all the classic casino games such as blackjack, poker and slots, are not used for the actual ceremonies.
The couple won a competition in a local newspaper to have an all expenses paid wedding in the casino and were overjoyed with their day. "I would definitely recommend it," said the groom. As well as providing all the trappings of a traditional wedding, including the ceremony, meal and evening party, the wedding party could also take advantage of the full facilities on offer at the casino, including casino games and slots.
