HISTORY
The origins of Blackjack are not entirely clear, as the game resembles quite a few others from throughout history, but most people believe that its closest roots lie in a 17th century French game called Vingt Et Un, which means 21. Although it was very similar in most respects, some rules were different to Blackjack.
Around the same time, a game in Italy called 'Sette-e-mezzo' was being played regularly, the aim being to get a score of... you guessed it... seven and a half. When a player went over seven and half points, they were busted. It is believed that this is where the term bust in Blackjack comes from.
AN IDIOT'S GUIDE TO BLACKJACK
There are of course, like most card games, many variations of Blackjack, but this is the basic premise behind the game.
Basically, you are dealt two cards. You are then given the option whether to be dealt more cards with which to score as close to 21 as possible, without going over that amount. If your cards add up to more than 21, you automatically lose. If you score 21 with your first two cards (a ten or a face with an ace) you win automatically with a 'Blackjack'... hence the name.
Other variations include Blackjack with Hot Streak Bonus and Double Attack Blackjack.
